Leap29 are partnered with a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a significant development portfolio of Solar and BESS projects in Ireland. About the Role

As a Senior PV Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the design, development, and implementation of diverse renewable energy projects. Your role will involve applying engineering principles to create sustainable and efficient energy solutions, with a focus on renewable technologies such as solar, BESS and others. Your primary focus will be on the design aspects of solar energy systems, involving the development of detailed plans, layouts, and specifications. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will contribute your expertise to ensure the successful design and implementation of solar and BESS projects for our company.

 

This is a permanent role, primarily based in our client’s Dublin office, with travel as required.

 

Responsibilities:

Main responsibilities

Project Development and Feasibility

  • Develop conceptual designs and project plans, considering factors such as site conditions, energy output requirements, and project economics.
  • Develop and review design specifications and functional requirements for solar energy systems or components.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability of renewable energy projects, considering factors such as solar resource assessment and site conditions.
  • Work closely with the project origination and development team

Technology Research and integration:

  • Research and evaluate renewable energy technologies, including solar photovoltaics and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and incorporate them into design concepts.
  • Recommend and select appropriate technologies based on project goals, resource availability, and environmental considerations.
  • Collaborate with the other areas of the company to test and implement innovative solutions to enhance project performance.

System Design and Optimization:

  • Design or coordinate design and optimize renewable energy systems, ensuring high efficiency and reliability.
  • Create detailed solar energy system designs, optimal layouts, component selection, and electrical schematics (SLD) using computed design software.
  • Optimize system performance through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and innovative design solutions.
  • Perform computer simulation of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation system performance or energy production to optimize efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance and Permitting:

  • Stay informed about local and national regulations related to renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure all design plans adhere to regulatory requirements and environmental standards and support the permitting process.

Energy Storage Integration:

  • Evaluate and implement energy storage solutions, such as battery systems, to enhance the reliability and stability of the projects.

Monitoring and Performance Analysis:

  • Analyse data and recommend adjustments to optimize energy production and system efficiency.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams and other stakeholders:

  • Work closely with project managers, environmental specialists, and other stake holders to align design plans and facilitate the successful execution of the projects.
  • Provide technical expertise during project development phases, ensuring seamless integration of design elements.
  • Collaborate with procurement team to estimate project costs and timelines associated with each project.

 

Requirements:

Job Description

  • Good, demonstrable understanding of the requirements related to PV projects designs and configuration.
  • Must be autonomous and pro-active to develop own workstreams and work across many different functions.
  • Proficiency in design software tools for solar layouts, simulations, and analysis, such as PVSyst, PVcase, RatedPower pvDesign, Smart-Sheets or MS Project
  • High Level of competence with MS Office suite of products.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and regulations related to solar energy projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for optimizing system performance.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey design concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

 

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s and-or Master’s degree in relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy or similar);
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Proven experience in solar energy system designs. Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and regulations related to solar energy projects.
  • Ideally, 3+ years’ experience within the solar energy industry.
  • Technical knowledge of other technologies (BESS, Wind, H2, etc) will be a plus.
